Keep Your Nose Clean

If any of you have been keeping up with the issues going on concerning privacy issues I want to tell you about a product.

I don’t have any affiliation with them nor am I making any money by referring you to them.

Ever since Edward Snowden provided documents that revealed rampant surveillance of the world’s digital communications by the NSA in co-ordination with private corporations and allied governments, I began to pay attention to the ways I can arm myself against privacy intrusions.

One of the first things I did was to be aware of the software I was using.  Much of the  proprietary software, we all use, leave us without any control.   Most of the time the corporations that build this software do not provide the source code.  This means we have no way of knowing what is really going on as our computers hum.   Proprietary programs are designed to spy on the users, restrict them, censor them, and abuse them.

There is a lot more to this, but I don’t want to get off subject.  The first thing that can be done is to use a private search engine that does not collect data on you, such as StartPage.

I’ve been using them for some time now and I feel it makes a difference.  They have also just come out with a new email service called StartMail.  You can read a review about it at My Review of Startmail Beta ~ Bauer-Power Media.

I’m not a spy, nor am I a drug dealer.  In fact, I have had only one speeding ticket in my entire life.  Many people say if you don’t have anything to hide what are you worrying about?  To be honest, for me, I think it’s just the principle.  Everyone picks their nose in private.  But how would it feel if you caught someone peaking through the window while you did it?

I’ll be writing more about this in the future.  Stay tuned.  Until then, keep your nose clean.

Here’s a video about StartMail.
